city guide düsseldorf : my 5 favorite cafes

Whenever I feel like I need fresh air I leave Dortmund hop on a train and in 45 min I’m in Düsseldorf. Less than an hour ride and here I am doing what I love doing most - walking the streets, watching people and visiting my favorite places. There are quite a few which I became attached to during the past years. I also always make sure that there is time for a ramen break, but Japanese theme in Düsseldorf is worth a separate post.

But before hustle and bustle I’d have a coffee and breakfast - nothing beats a good cup and a snack for a good day start.

In case you also prefer to start your day with a good meal and a cup of freshly brewed coffee, or simply need a break when in Düsseldorf, here are 5 favorite places which haven’t failed me yet.

One of my favorite places for a long breakfast. It’s cozy, light, simply but very stylishly decorated and has a great possibility to sit outside (all the pazers for a good weather day). It is located in a nice are of Düsseldorf right next to Fürstenplatz and makes for a great start point to get to know the city.

The menu is diverse and everyone would find something appealing. Lox bagels and coconut+lemon scones with mascarpone are GOOD!! So is the coffee.

ADDRESS: Benrather Str. 6B, 40213 Düsseldorf

Relatively new, this place is not exactly about breakfast, but it is about delicious coffee, friendly staff, little space and loads of energy. Located on a busy corner of the Karlsplatz with a huge window watching over the market it serves like a magnet for the Düsseldorf hip scene. Grab your delicious freshly brewed delight and sit back, relax and watch.

P.S.Banana bread is great too!

ADDRESS: Marc-Chagall-Straße 108, 40477 Düsseldorf

Located off the busy city center in a sleepy neighbourhood this is a lovely place for a healthy breakfast and a good cup. Come early otherwise you might not get a sit.

WOYTON AM HAFEN: Erftstraße 1, 40219 Düsseldorf
WOYTON AM SCHADOWPLATZ:  Schadowplatz 16, 40212 Düsseldorf

Not playing smarty pants here, but I would say that WOYTON has become classics in Düsseldorf. With multiple locations around the city it serves great coffee, baked goods and simple food in a cozy atmosphere.

My favorite ones are WOYTON am Schadowplatz right in the middle of busy city center shopping way and WOYTON am Hafen located on a nice corner next to the Düsseldorf Harbour.

ADDRESS: Marktplatz 12, 40213 Düsseldorf

As the name says (for the ones who understand German =)) it is a roastery. So everything here is about coffee. Right in the heart of Düsseldorf Altstadt (Old city) this is a great place to start your day and for watching locals and visitors starting theirs (my favorite activity instead of working ).
